20th-Nov-2008 12:58 am - Need some Mac advice
JB poolside
I think I'm ready to make the big jump...
Yes, everyone, I'm going to switch from my clunky PC to a MAC!
So...I need everyone's help to figure out what's the best Mac to get and some advice as far as where to get it and what stuff I'll need.
Should I go with a laptop? Or desktop?
Does the Mac run Microsoft Office applications?
Are there any good LJ communities out there to give Mac advice?

I'm going to primarily use the Mac for all my graphics stuff.
So, I guess I'll need a good graphics card and lots of memory and RAM.
I'll be running the Adobe CS Suite -- aka, memory hogs.

And since I've been on the PC for so long, can the stuff I've been working on the PC translate and is workable on the Mac system?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Scooby Snax for everyone that gives their 2 cents! ;-)
29th-Aug-2008 08:33 am - Finally read "Border Princes"
wtf
"Border Princes" = WTF.
Of all the books I've read so far in the Torchwood series, this has got to be the worst one. Ugh. Where was it going? Who the hell is James? Yeah, I know, the author went with what the producers of TW gave him as a guideline and at that point, even the producers had no idea what was going on with the show, but still that didn't help this book. What a waste of time.

Now I'm really looking forward to the next series of books! BRING IT ON!

So, how did I spend my Saturday night?
Nope. Didn't watch the Olympics. Didn't spend it on LJ. Didn't go clubbing. Didn't even SLEEP.
I took part in an All-Night Fitness Challenge!
That's 8 hours of fitness exercises that went on through the night.
We started at 10pm on Saturday night and didn't end til the sun came up at 6am on Sunday morning.
WHY did I do it?
Why not? Wanted to see if I could do eight straight hours of cardio/strength exercises and stay up for literally over 24 hours! OK, so I wanted to get the t-shirt. LOL.

Fun times, indeed. After finishing and having breakfast, I was WRECKED. Managed to drive home and crashed in bed for 4 hours.

Managed to stay awake through lunch, then watch "The Dark Knight". (How I managed to stay awake in the movie is beyond me. And BTW, Heath Ledger stole the show. Everyone else was second banana to him as far as performance was concerned.)

I need sleep. And I need a good, long full body massage.
3rd-Aug-2008 09:27 am - Comic Con - My love for Gerry
Gerry OMG
Butler, that is.

He was on the panel to discuss Guy Ritchie's upcoming film "RocknRolla". I still dunno what his role is, but he looks so damn cute. I swear, the entire first block of seats were filled with his fans. So, I must paint my LJ with beautiful Gerry.

OK, I'm restarting my effort to post my pics from Comic-Con.
So, here it goes: The autographs I've collected at the con.
GDL and JB's autos I got on Thursday before their panel. I got a ticket for the first timeslot. Thank God I had my line-squatter-of-a-cousin to hold a place for me in the coral for room the panel was being held in! That gave me a chance to go down to the exhibit hall and get to meet them. AND HAD I KNOWN, I would have waited to get their autos because they were as mobbed the next day! Naoko Mori and Steven Moffat I got at the BBC America signing booth. FREE, thank goodness. Both were very nice. I had Naoko, Gareth and John sign my t-shirt! (Yes, I have got to get it framed! And I have to get Eve's and Burn's autos!!)

BBC America also held a FREE signing for Juliet Aubrey and Karl Theobald (Primeval) at their booth. Both of them were very nice as well. Their line weren't as long as Naoko's or Moffat's, but it's good there is some interest in them.

I got the baddie's auto by chance. Someone was walking around telling anybody and everybody that he was there at their booth doing a signing. So, hey, why not, I had time, so I went and said "hi". Very nice guy. I chatted with him a little and had my picture taken with him.

Come and see my pics!

30th-Jul-2008 02:09 pm - Doctor Who Proms question
GerrWedgie
...that I hope my flisters can answer.
First off, what is the Proms??
Second, I'm listening to the MP3 version of the entire broadcast. (Brilliant, btw. Just like the Children in Need concert. Yeah, I love Gold's score!)
Is there a video version of it? (Aside from the Doctor interlude with him and the Gaske?)

Just wondering because it sounds great, would love to see it too.
29th-Jul-2008 07:55 pm - Comic-Con - The Autographs
Whoa
It's amazing what one goes through just to get a scribble on a piece of paper or magazine or whatever.
Part of the allure of Comic Con are the LINES. Constant lines for everything. And lines to meet and get an autograph from your favorite star are killers. Not to mention expensive for the ones you have to pay for.
So, anyways, I got autographs from GDL and JB -- TWICE (cha-CHING). At first, I had them sign two photos I bought from their booth. But after thinking about it, I had a Torchwood t-shirt that I made that I bought along to wear that I thought should have been signed. So, I coughed up more money to have them sign it. Naoko's autograph was free and she commented on how cool it was!

Other autographs I got were two of the cast from Primeval and the baddie from the last season of "24".
Also got Steven Moffat's autograph on a copy of DWM that I happen to bring with me because I haven't finishied reading it! Now I don't know if I'll ever finish it!

I really wanted to get Simon Pegg's autograph, but luck wasn't on my side. I didn't get a winning ticket to stand in line to get his. :(
(But I got pics!!! Pics to come!)

Gotta show off my stuff.

Who needs a moderator when you have Julie Gardner on stage?
Both Julie and Steven Moffat where great panelists.
Moffat gave out dating advice and that was the running joke throughout the session.
Moffat told a hilarious story of how the US immigration officers just don't want foreigners coming into the country.
(Gardner said in jest, if anyone wants spoilers for upcoming Doctor Who episodes, have the immigration officers question Moffat cuz he sings like a bird to authority! Then I think someone said that TSA were in the back of the room waiting for him. LOL.)
Julie recounted how hard it is to film Moffat stories -- particularly "The Girl in the Fireplace" where the Doctor had to jump through the mirror on a horse.
Moffat will be very, very busy. He'll be chained/taped to his desk and writing. In fact, Gardner says the only reason why RTD wasn't able to attend was because he was busy writing his script for Torchwood!!!
Asked if Moffat will be doing a Torchwood story, Gardner basically said he'll be very, very busy with Doctor Who and will be chained to his desk writing.
No spoilers for the upcoming Doctor Who special. BUT, they gave the audience a treat by showing us an extended version of the trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who special that'll air in the spring. (It's spring, right?)
They showed it twice to the delight of the audience!

Moffat has a great sense of humor. He had us going throughout the session.
Gardner. Well, you know, she can go on and on and on. Like I said, there was no need for a moderator!
(Besides, that guy from the LA Times was horrible! He kept showing up at all the Brit shows panels!!!!)

Onward to the pics!!!!

Here are various pics of JB and GDL at their booth in the exhibit hall.
John was much harder to take a pic of because there were always people there asking for his autograph or talking to him. I didn't have the nerve to go up and talk to him. I wouldn't know what to say but the standard, "I-love-the-show-and-I-love-you-and-I-think-I'm-going-to-faint!" Gareth was easier, but I did the camera stalker thing which really didn't work because I think he noticed me and thought I was nuts. And again, didn't have the nerve to go up and talk to him. Tho, I did ask him when his CD was going to come out. He said he's really, really busy but he's hoping by the end of summer. He wore black t-shirts and jeans the entire time. And he doesn't seem as tall and definitely NOT fat. Dude's slim! I hope he had a chance to walk around the floor. He could have gone around and not get noticed.

Hope he comes back next year. Maybe if he does, I'll muster up enough courage to jump him. *jk!* :)

Oh yeah...so I posted pictures, yet I didn't say anything about the panel!
The Torchwood panel was right after the Doctor Who panel. Julie Gardner stayed on stage as they introduced John Barrowman first. He got HUGE applause from the audience. He came out with his hands up and stood up on his chair and gave everyone a Captain Jack salute (not the X-rated kind...). Gareth David-Lloyd then came out and gave everyone a shocker salute. As he was passing JB, he grabs him and gives him a Jack/Ianto kiss. The audience went nuts. Naoko came out last to the delight of the audience.

I don't remember everything that was said, but some of the highlights were:
* Series 3 will be airing on BBC America!!!!
* JB telling the sound tech NOT to turn off his mic. They did a couple of times, and he gave them a look like "what did I tell you about my mic?". :)
* JB reliving how he found out he was the Face of Boe.
* JB and Naoko doing a duet from Miss Saigon at the request of an audience member.
* JB and Naoko tearing up after they showed the clip of Tosh's death scene.
* JB and GDL reenacting a joke they used to do on set involving Lisa's pic. :)
* Did I mention the kiss?
* At the end of the panel, they showed a clip of other BBCA shows that were coming up like Primeval. JB comes out and said "IT SUCKS!!!!" Or at least I think that's what he said. Everyone was leaving the room and the stage was dark at that point.

So, that's all I can remember until I get video footage from my line-squatter cousin.
